Why EME²?

EME² participants understand that energy efficiency begins with efficient energy. In practice this means producing and delivering more energy for final consumption from less primary energy and other natural resources, notably water and land. This is what we call “efficient energy”. Our primary focus is on the supply of more resource-efficient electricity and combined heat and power.

Europe’s stake in efficient energy

Primary energy saving : The European Union cannot reach its target of 20% primary energy savings by 2020 through demand-side action alone. Supply-side efficiencies will have to fill the gap. More efficient use of water: Electricity and heat production represent 44% of Europe’s water withdrawals, primarily for cooling – the largest single consumer. Using water more efficiently in power generation represents a vital priority for meeting Europe’s water policy goals.
